Whether you are in need of masonry tools, asphalt tools, or concrete tools, Slip Industries has everything you need! With over thirty years in the business, we understand what it takes to be the best. We want to be the only place you go to buy masonry tools online. Slip Industries comes from humble beginnings and this blog allows us to share that story. While there are many companies you can turn to when you need specific tools, Slip Industries sets itself apart with our selection and flexibility.
Our inventory includes many tools that tradesmen use every day and if you cannot find the tool you need, we can make it!
Our selection of custom tools is second to none and they help us ensure that our customers have the right tools for the job, every time!
Slip industries started in 1988 when Charles Herr began manufacturing and distributing tools for local tradesmen. A masonry contractor from Philadelphia needed a tool that would help him scrape block walls. Mr. Herr designed a tool that attached a grinding disc to a bracket that was then fastened to a handle. A custom fabricated head made of extruded aluminum holds the grinding disc in place.
Soon after, customers made the masonry wallscraper a great success. So much so that it is still a product we continue to make and sell to this day! Our masonry wallscraper can remove fins and burs quickly and efficiently.
One of the next tools that Mr. Herr developed was a specialized straightedge. Concrete workers use straightedges almost every day. In the early days, straightedges were made of wood. After some time, tool makers started using metal to produce straightedges. One of the biggest problems with those straightedges was the risk of injury to the user. Some workers would cut their hands, which created a safety concern. As this concern grew, a contractor approached Mr. Herr to see if he had a solution to this problem. Slip Industries developed a straightedge made of a high-grade, heat-treated aluminum alloy that has kerfed edges. The rounded edges help to greatly reduce any risk of injury and the strong aluminum helps maintain a true edge for a long-lasting tool. Unlike many straightedges, we have welded end caps on ours, so that concrete does not get inside and weigh it down.
We have designed, manufactured, and sold many products since we started so many years ago. Whether it is for our lute with a serrated edge or the tool you have been thinking of but have not made a reality yet, we want to be the only place you turn to when you need to buy tools online for masonry, concrete, and asphalt.
One of the things that we are most proud of is that we can say that all of our welding and fabrication is done in-house. We do not outsource to other big companies, or overseas - everything is done right in Pennsylvania. This helps us maintain quality control over our products to make sure we are bringing you only the very best American-made tools.
Mr. Herr started Slip Industries over thirty years ago and worked very hard to build up a business that is known for working directly with contractors and tradesmen to recognize the things they believe are necessities and we help to fulfill those needs. He helped build long-lasting relationships with many customers over the years and got to the point where his business grew enough to expand. In 1996, his daughter Charyl came on board and began helping run things. She learned the business very quickly and on January first of 2004, Charyl became full owner of Slip Industries. Mr. Herr retired and is very proud of his daughter Charyl having a women-owned business. Charyl’s son, Sam, is also involved in the business working as a welder that helps in manufacturing. Now, in its second generation, Slip Industries is a long-lasting family-owned business that hopes to continue to serve its customers for many years to come.
